THE SAN JOAQUIN
TUESDAY NIGHT FLYER
November 12, 2008 (Wednesday Edition)
NEW DATA & INFORMATION
NUMEROUS BELATED THANK’S
FOR OUR CONVENTION:
Many folks helped to make our Convention so wonderful and
so very different from recent years past. Much of the initial
planning was done by Fr.’s Howard Giles, Richard James, Carlos
Raines, Andy Watson, Deacon Frances Levy, June Waltenberger, our
Bishop, and myself. All the final details were handled by a
multitude of volunteers and our Diocesan Staff. I’ll be shot if I
don’t name all the people, but we do wish to thank the Cathedral
Staff, especially Mary Kay Edwards and Susan Sanders (who share the
role of Cathedral Secretary and numerous other tasks) John Downing
(who handled all our sound requirements), Melinda Zarate (who
arranged all six of the testimonies presented (June, Chris
Whitehead, Jonathan Hart, Molly Neely, Gary Facciani, & Fr. Michael
Jun), Royce Nickel the Cathedral Organist, Susie Gazlay (who
organized & directed the massed Bell Choir), Nat Tibpha and Moon
Kala (who set up/broke down the rooms we shared),. We thank whoever
moved the altar over the rails to the front of the chancel steps!!!
We thank Dean Carlos for acting as MC for the worship. Our other
musicians were fabulous, and we must start with Dcn. Don Rees who
led an outstanding jazz trio (Don on clarinet/sax/vocals; Dick
Dowdy; bass/tuba/etc.; Robert Epson: piano/trombone & vocal),
playing gospel swing and other favorites; the Poverello House group,
again organized by Susie Gazley; and Joseph Sampson (son of Fr. Jeff
Sampson) who not only organized and led the praise band that played
Friday night and Saturday morning, but who wowed us all by playing
the Irish bagpipes so powerfully on the first evening. As usual,
the staff at Diocesan House pulled out numerous miracles, creating
materials, printing (& reprinting), folding, stuffing, ballot prep,
setting up registration, etc., etc., etc, and we could not have done
it without Debbie Roberts, Christina Gomez-Vidal, Daniel Marker,
Amanda Roberts, Fr. Van McCalister, and – of course!, June. There
were many behind the scenes who DON’T want their names listed.
Finally, all that work would have never succeeded without the
participation of the lay and clergy Delegates, and the numerous
church members who accompanied them to carry fabulous banners,
encourage the speakers and presenters, and accomplish the business
and celebration of the 49th Annual Convention of the
Diocese of San Joaquin. Some folks reported that they left our
Convention “refreshed!” Yes!!!
THANK YOU TO CANON DAVID ROSEBERRY
Belated thank you to the Rev. David H. Roseberry who
served us so magnificently at our Annual Convention. Sermons and
teachings may be found on our website, www.sjoaquin.net. I’m
certain that he will appreciate any notes from you that you feel
would be appropriate, care of

INFORMATION FROM PRIOR
FLYERS
NEW APPLICATIONS FOR LIFE,
DENTAL & DISABILITY INSURANCE: Debbie Matley has
sent new applications to all our Clergy regarding new Dental
Insurance, Life Insurance, and Disability Insurance Policies.
You should know that the policies we currently hold will not
continue beyond December except for clergy who remain part of
the Episcopal Church. Our newer policies include the same
benefits at slightly less cost. There is optional life
insurance above the $50,000 basic policy but you, or your
employer, must pay that separately. IMPORTANT NOTICE: The
beneficiary designation form which was enclosed with the packet
was for the optional policies up to $200,000. The form for the
basic $50,000 was mailed Tuesday in a separate mailing today.
Please call Debbie with any questions about how to complete the
forms, etc.
PENSION REMINDER:
We recommend that any clergy who were named in Bishop Lamb’s
notice of inhibition please contact the Church Pension Group to
confirm that they are not affected in any way. Our
understanding is that “depositions” DO, indeed, end the CPG’s
ability to receive contributions, but inhibitions do not. I am
awaiting a confirmation from them at this writing.
CLERGY RETREAT MOVED TO JANUARY:
THE REV. MICHAEL BREEN,
CONDUCTOR: The Rev. Michael Breen,

Conductor focusing on the Kingdom of God. ECCO will play host again
on January 5-7. Having participating in his teachings on the
LifeShapes series, I can testify that Fr. Mike is a dynamic teacher,
